Ann Epton was born on 27th December 1880 at Burgh le Marsh in Lincolnshire, daughter of Mary Ann Epton, formerly Thornalley, and her husband John Epton, a coal porter. Ann appears in both the 1881 and 1891 censuses living with her parents and siblings on Wainfleet Road in Burgh le Marsh. By 1901 the family had moved to the neighbouring parish of Bratoft, where her father became a farmer. In the 1911 census Ann was described as doing dairy work on her father's farm at Bratoft.

On 4th February 1921, aged 40, Ann was married at Burgh le Marsh to married William Singleton, a widower who was 68 years old. They were married for four years; William died in March 1925.

By the outbreak of the Second World War, Ann had moved to the nearby seaside resort of Skegness, where she was working as a nurse. On 18th September 1940, aged 59, she married a widower called Charles Wilmot Birchall at Skegness.

Ann has yet to be traced after her second marriage. Charles died in 1954 in the Spilsby district (which included Skegness), but no plausible death for Ann in the area has been found.
