Ann Dennis's origins have yet to be established. It is possible she was the Ann Dennis born on Christmas Eve 1783 at Woburn in Bedfordshire, daughter of John Dennis and Sarah Hawkins.

Ann's first confirmed sighting is on 30th September 1808, when she married an agricultural labourer named Thomas Gobby at Woburn. Between 1809 and 1813 the couple had three daughters born at Woburn, then moved to the nearby village of Toddington where they had two sons in about 1815 and 1817.

Ann has yet to be traced after the birth of her youngest child in 1817.
