The Death of Mrs. Angela Cowles
Well Known and Highly Respected Resident Died on Monday, Following Long Illness.
Mrs. Angela K. Cowles, a life-long resident of Bolivar and one of its highly respected citizens, died at her home on South Main street Monday morning, September 27, at 7:20 o'clock. She had been in poor health for nearly a year and a half, having been confined to her bed during that time. Death was caused by hemorrhage.
Angela Kenyon Cowles was born January 28, 1841, in the house in which she died. She also was married in the same house on February 22, 1863, to Edgar Wallace Cawles (sic), who died a number of years ago.
Mrs. Cawles (sic) had lived in Bolivar all of her life excepting a few years when she resided in Pittsburg. She was a charter member of the Buttrick Chapter, No. 109, Order of the Eastern Star and of the Sorosis Club of this village. Mrs. Cowles possessed many fine characteristics. She was a devoted mother, a good neighbor, and had a large circle of friends who prized her friendship.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Marcia Cowles Lowry of Bolivar, Mrs. Susanne Cowles Connor of Washington, PA; also two grandchildren, Mrs. Edith Lowry Flanagan of Harrisburg and Edgar K. Lowry of Pittsburg.
The funeral services were held at the house Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with Rev. O.C. Baker and Rev. R.A. MacGowan officiating. The bearers were: S.U. Maxson, W. J. Hogan, Jr., G.A. Beers, Frank and Charles Parker, and Charles Repp. The Interment was made in the family lot in Maple Lawn cemetery.
