http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?andre::aube::32.htm l Hi Myles. My name is Josef Clarence Aubé. I`M from Beresford in the province of New Brunswick, Canada. It is my believe that all of the families bearing the name Aubé, no matter what the spelling may be, either Aube, Aubé , Aubie. Obey, obe Hobbie, Hobby or whatever, we all come from the same ancestor, that is Andre Aube who apprently was abducted by the Indian in the early 1600. There are saying that his real name could have been Hendrick Obe and that he was Dutch. Now I could not find anything further to verify the authencity of this saying. This Andre Aube is said to have been born in 1670 and died in 1704. He was adopted by Guillaume Lemieux and he lived most of his life in L`Ile aux Grues in the province of Quebec. He married Genevieve Fradet and had many children .Personnally I am from the family of Henry son of Augustin son of Magloire son of Augustin Aubé. So much for that. Josef Clarence Aubé

http://genforum.genealogy.com/aube/messages/20.html My maiden name is Aube and the info that I have been able to find on my line is that Andre Aube was born to a Jean Aube and Agnes Claes. He was kidnapped by the Iroquois Indians during the French-Indian War and brought to Canada. He apparently didn't speak english at all (thus the dit L'Anglais). He was adopted by a Guillaume Lemieux and his wife and raised in St. Vallier, Quebec. He married a Genevieve Fradet and had several children. Colear NY where he was kidnapped from was apparently a Dutch community. The info I keep coming across seems to indicate that Andre's name was actually Hendrick Obe. Andre Aube is the french version of this Dutch name. Andre Aube very possibly might have been Dutch.

http://genforum.genealogy.com/aube/messages/30.html Hi . I am Josef Clarence Aubé from Beresford New Brunswick. There are Aubie`s family in the Bathurst, NB area. It seems though that most of the family their name AUBIE are English speaking , while the french speaking are spelling it AUBÉ. This is something I have notice. Looking at history , people then were not educated and most of them did not know how to write properly so they wrote it as they pronounce it, so most likely this is where the name Aubé was once written OBE.
