SHEPHERSON, Amos; from Attleborough to Nfd., 1793; about 1820, rem. to New York. He m. Rebecca Whitcomb. Source:Shepardson, Francis Wayland. Shepardson Family, published early 1900s, Amos-15, says, parroting the above almost word for word: 15. Amos Shepardson moved from Attleboro, Mass. to Northfield, Mass. in 1793, and to New York state in 1820. He married Rebecca Whitcomb and had children... In another passage, p. 3, published early 1900s, in trying to trace the Amos Shepardson, s/o Amos-6 , b. Norton who married Abigail Pratt, then separated from his wife, offers as 1 of 2 possible candidates: Another Amos Shepardson moved from Attleboro, Mass., to Northfield, Mass., about 1793, and about 1820 moved to New York state. Source:Allen, William. History of Norridgewock, p. 170 lists the marriage of Amos Shepardson and Rebecca Winslow (i.e., not Whitcomb) in 1786. See below. Amos Shepardson is listed as a taxpayer in 1788 (p. 97). The records that can be found are:
The marriage in Maine seems a good match to be parents of a boy born 1787, but no conclusive evidence has been found. Is his father the Amos b. 1732 who m. 1755 Abigail Pratt and then apparently who left his first wife? Is his mother Rebecca Whitcomb or Rebecca Winslow or are they the same person? At this point there is not enough information to identify the parents of Amos. More research is needed. References
