Taken From the 1885 History of Steuben County, Indiana page 752: Ambrose enlisted in the One Hundredth Indiana Infantry, and was discharged for disability. He died July 23, 1863, four weeks after reaching home. Civil War Service records show he was inducted as a private and discharged as such.

Louise McLain Shambaugh has that he was born Dec. 22, 1830
