Amanda was born 7 October 1860 in Indiana -- probably on the family farm in Brandywine township, Shelby county, Indiana where her parents are found in July of 1860. Amanda is found in 1870 living with her mother and four of her siblings on a farm in Benton township, Holt county, Missouri. It is assumed that her father has died by this time. In 1880 Amanda is living in a boarding house back in Brandywine, Shelby county, Indiana, single and attending school.

After her marriage to Isaac Hill Preston in 1885, Amanda followed him to Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, and finally to California. She died at Andrew Schultz's home on Deer Creek Road in Sanitarium, Napa county, California on 22 March 1953.

Amanda had been a member of the Seventh-Day Church of God (Isaac was a minister in that denomination), and after she and Isaac moved to California they joined the Seventh-Day Adventists.

Seventh-Day Adventist ministers Elder E. T. Peterson and Elder S. T. Borg conducted her funeral service, and she was a member of the St. Helena Seventh-Day Adventist church at the time of her death.
