Amanda Belle Chenault was born 17 February 1865, on the Smokie Hill Trail, Indian Territory, Kansas, (west of Salina, between Fort Hays and Fort Riley in an adobe house, with their covered wagon beside the house.) the daughter of James Madison Chenault and Angeline Adelia Edwards. James was looking for a place to settle out west, when Amanda was born and the Cheyenne Indian uprising took place and ran them back to Pottawatomie County, Kansas, where he settled on land that overlooked Fort Riley. All of Amanda's younger brother's and sister's were born while they lived in Kansas.

In the 1870's James moved to Linn Township, Moniteau County, Missouri, with his family and settled.

Amanda married Issac Preston Johnson (son of Joseph Jesse Johnson and Nancy Aley) in Cooper County, Missouri, on 5 February 1884. - Supplied by Clyde Johnson
