Brown County Weekly, Fr 14 Feb 1947: Bland -- Alvin E. Bland, 79, died at his home at 109 Utah street, Thursday morning, Feb. 13, 1947, after several weeks illness. He is survived by his wife of the home, four sons, Richard Bland, of Kansas City, Mo., Terry T. Bland, of Horton, Kans., Alvin E. Bland, of the U.S. navy, William N. Bland, of the U.S. army, four daughters, Mrs. Eunice Nottingham of Tennessee, Mrs. Zora Oaks, of Hiawatha, Mrs. Sybil Young, of California, Mrs. Wilma Reed, of Hiawatha, two step sons, Elmer, Kenneth Hedrick of Hiawatha, step daughter, Mrs. Melba Quaife, of Iola, Kans., brother A.M. Bland, of Robinson. Funeral services will be held from Meek's chapel at 2 o'clock, Saturday, Feb. 15, 1947, conducted by Rev. G.I. Benton. Interment will be held in the Miller cemetery east of Everest.
Brown County Weekly, Fr. 21 Feb. 1946: Funeral Services - For Alvin E. Bland - Funeral services for Alvin E. Bland were held from Meek's chapel at 2 o'clock Saturday, Feb. 15, 1947, by Rev. G.I. Benton. A quartette composed of Mrs. Benton, Mrs. Guy Gullickson, Ralph Smith, L.A. Loose, accompanied by Miss Grace Larson, sang "When They Ring Those Golden Bells for You and Me," "Whispering Hope." Body bearers were Carlos Mitchell, Ekel Degraffenreid, David E. Fahrmeyer, David E. Fahrmeyer Jr., Ruel Fahrmeyer. Interment was at Miller cemetery east of Everest.
