    Alpheus Smith Waterman, son of Jeremiah Randall and Polly Smith (Knight) Waterman, was born in Johnston, R. I., March 21, 1836. He removed to Providence in the early fifties, and established himself there in business at an early date. The firm of A. S. Waterman was favorably and widely-known among business and mercantile enterprises in Providence for several decades. Alpheus Smith Waterman married (first) Betsy Harris Parkis. He married (second) Rebecca P. Remington, June 14, 1857, and died in Providence, October 25, 1907.
