Elonzo J. McLain purchased 40 acres in Northwest Twp. on November 17, 1879 from A.W. Dennis (who appears to be some kin of his mother). Elonzo J. McLain turned around on February 22, 1887 and sold the land to a Andrew McLain for 1200 dollars. The Bryan Press from Thursday, Sept. 30, 1886 says: "Alonzo McLain has sold his farm to his brother Andrew, of Florence township."

Louise McLain Shambaugh has that his name is Alonzo James Dolittle McLain. Born April 10, 1850 in Monroe, Michigan. Died May 18, 1828, 78 years at the home of his brother, Wm. H. McLain II, Shelburn, Linn Co., OR. Never married. Came to OR 1909, at time of death he resided with his niece Gertrude McLain, dtr of Wm. H. McLain II, and her 1st husband, Theron M. Russell. Lon was buried in the Bellfountain cemetery, Benton County, Oregon. Death cert. # 109, Linn Co., OR

Victoria Beck has middle initial as J. born April 10, 1850 in Whiteford Twp. Monroe County, Michigan. Died May 18, 1928 in Shelburn, Linn Co., Oregon. Never married.

Marion Watt has: Hills of Home p. 37 "Alonzo McLain, a bachelor and itinerant salesman, was another regular visitor (of the author) He usually showed up about harvest time to help store the crop of hay and grain. All harvest operations were accompllished by a combination of man and horse power and muscles were given a good work out." and other stories.

The Oregon Death Index, 1903-1998 has an Alonzo J. McLain passing away in Linn County, Oregon, on May 18, 1928.
