Almeron Orland Cowles, son of Rev. Remember J. (2171), b. July 10, 1832, Sugar Grove, Warren Co., Pa.; d. April 7, 1908, at Othello, Minn.; m. (1) Jan. 26, 1854, Thankful E. Foster, d. at Mercy Hospital, Chicago, Ill., Nov. 18, 1876, dau. of David Foster of the town of Farmington, Warren Co., Pa.; m. (2) Emma J. Wheeler of Mantorville, Minn. Feb. 21, 1878. In April, 1856, Mr. Cowles settled in New Haven township, Olmsted Co., Minn. In 1857, he moved to Mantorville, lived there six years and returned to his former home; member of Mantorville Lodge No. 62, A.O.O.U.; township supervisor in 1873; justice of the peace, 1881-2; secretary, Association of County Commissioners for two years and in 1907 was elected president of same; county commissioner of Olmsted County for nearly two terms, holding that office at the time of his death.
