Alma Chew, 93, of Herminie No. 2, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at the Hempfield Manor, Greensburg. Born Dec. 24, 1918, in Darragh, she was the daughter of the late August Namestka and Mary Margaret Cummings Altman Namestka. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Oven King Bakery in Herminie. She was a member of the Herminie No. 2 United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Chew Sr., May 8, 2012. She was also predeceased by three brothers, Joseph, Warren and August Namestka; two sisters, Myrtle Jury and Margaret Stefanon; four half brothers, Lawrence, James, Edward and Elmer Altman; and two half sisters, Elizabeth Seabury and Mary Jane Altman. Survivors include a son, James W. Chew Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Blairsville; two daughters, Margaret (Chew) Taylor Veahman and her husband, Frank, of Hookstown, and Dolores (Chew) Swanson and her husband, Bill, of Blairsville; two sisters-in-law, Jean Namestka, of Herminie No. 2, and Emma Altman, of Greensburg; 11 grandchildren, Kevin Taylor and his wife, Debbie, Tharon Taylor, Alma Jean Taylor Barile and her husband, Russell, Glenn Veahman and his wife, Caroline, Frannie Veahman Fowler and her husband, Bryan, Heidi Veahman Potts and her husband, Richard, and Bernadette Chew Jancay, Becky Chew Vadala and her husband, Ron, Todd Swanson and wife, Tam, Mark Swanson and wife, Rosezella, and Bethany Swanson Yuninger and her husband, David; 21 great-grandchildren, Samantha, Travis, Bryce, Kaitlyn Marie, Clayton Lee, Glenn Jr., Nicholas, Tabatha, Ryan James, Sammy Page, Jessie, Evie, Elle, Joey, Victoria, Allyson, Deanna, Kayln, James, Niko and Aleah; one great-great-grandson, Tharon Lee; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 136, Madison. Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Randy Sweet officiating. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park Cemetery, Greensburg.
