Mrs. Allie Snell Sutton, 81, 110 McCulloch Blvd., died Tuesday night at Woodland Nursing Home after an extended illness. She was the widow of Wilbur E. Sutton, editor of the Evening Press until his death in 1949.
Mrs. Sutton was born in Muncie, the daughter of Thomas B. and Alice Bird Snell. Her grandfather, Dr. Solomon Snell, was a pioneer Muncie physician. She attended the Muncie schools.
Mr. and Mrs. Sutton were married April 14, 1904. Their only son, Donn T. Sutton, was a prominent newspaper man and was public relations director for Borg Warner Corp., at the time of his death.
Mrs. Sutton was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served for many years on the board of directors of the Visiting Nurse Association.
Mrs. Sutton was a member of the Round Table Club and served as corresponding secretary and keeper and custodian of the records of the club.
Surviving are two grandchildren, Mrs. Jerry Victor, Warren, Mich., and Wood Sutton, Boston, Mass.; two great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Cynthia Victor; four nieces, Mrs. Norman Durham of Muncie, Mrs. Ruth Meyers and Miss Edna Snell of Hartford City, and Mrs. Dorothy Fleming of Pasadena, Calif.; and a nephew, Robert Snell of Hartford City.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Meeks Mortuary with Rev. Lewis Weber Gishler officiating. Cremation will follow. Callers will be received at the funeral home from 3 to 5 and from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
