Was in St. Francis County in 1830 in Johnson Township. 1870 Census: Had $4680 in real estate and $1000 personal estate Was a sheriff in St. Francis County, AR in 1829 according to the Sheriff Census of that year. However, he was not a sheriff of St. Francis County according to "History of St. Francis County" book. William Strong was the first from 1827-1832, There was an Amos Elliott in Madison County, Alabama (Mississippi Territory at the time) in 1810 and 1811 that may have been Allen's father. He homesteaded 80 acres in St. Francis County in October of 1849, 40 acres in December of 1850 and 40 acres in March of 1856, all in Township 5N, Range 2E. A man named Charles Butler homesteaded thousands of acres in this same township and range in 1838. St. Francis County was created October 27, 1827 from Phillips County. Named after St. Francis River. County seat was first at Franklin and then moved to Madison, once a thriving river town, where it remained until 1874. Forrest City was founded in 1866 by General Nathan Bedford Forrest when the Memphis to Little Rock railroad was cut through Crowley's Ridge by former Confederate soldiers and Irish immigrants.
