  2.   The 1739 will of widow Grace Wardwell names her daughter-in-law Mary Lawless, i.e., step-daughter. Mary (Gladding) Lawless would be a step-granddaughter, not a step-daughter, but might be the person referred to. In an article in TAG, p. 61:170, John Green adds "[Alice?]" when relaying the naming of Mary Lawless in Grace's will as Mary's mother Alice (Wardwell) Gladding would be the actual step-daughter. Whether Grace meant Alice, but named her daughter in error, or whether the legatee was actually Mary, alone of all of Alice's children, cannot be told from the abstract of the will provided.
