The Daily News - Batavia, Genesee County, New York State - July17-1896 Oakfield--Mrs. Frank GRIFFIN, who lives a short distance north of thisvillage, upon returning to her home late yesterday afternoon, after ashort absence, discovered a man sleeping in the woodshed in the rearof the house, a quantity of clean clothing having been used as apillow. He was ordered from the house, and Deputy Sheriff H.E.STEVENS was sent for, finding the tramp by the roadside, a shortdistance from the house. The offender was taken before JusticeHAWES, where he gave his name as James WHITE. A coat worn underneathan outside coat, was identified by Mrs. GRIFFIN as a coat which hadbeen hanging in the woodshed, belonging to her husband. The Justicecommitted WHITE to the County jail for ten days. References
