Miss Alice Andrus Heminway Is Married To J. Otis Wardwell 2d in St. James Here Miss Alice Andrus Heminway, daughter of Mrs. Buell H. Heminway of Madison. Conn., and the late Mr. Heminway, was married yesterday in St. James Episcopal Church here to J. Otis Wardwell 2d. son of Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon E. Wardwell of Brookline, Mass. The Rev. Dr. Horace W. B. Donegan. the rector, performed the ceremony. The bride, whe was given in marriage by her brother, Buell T. Heminway, wore a gown of blush pink satin with a heart-shaped neckline trimmed with rose point lace, an heirloom. and a tight bodice. long sleeves and full skirt. Her tulle veil was attached to a cap of the same lace, and she carried a bouquet of white orchids and stephanotis. Miss Elaine Heminway was her sister's maid of honor, and Mrs. Eric R. Hansen of New York was matron of honor. The other attendants were Mrs. Stanley Wallace and Mrs. Oliver D. Wells of New York and the Misses Mary L. Gass of Washington and Cynthia Myrick of New York. C. Morgan Aldrich Jr. of Hartford. Conn.. was best man. A reception was given at the River Club. -New York Times 20 June 1942

Alice H. Wardwell, former president of Children's Home By The Detroit News (21 July 2000) GROSSE POINTE FARMS -- Services for Alice H. Wardwell, former president of the Children's Home of Michigan, will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Christ Church, 61 Grosse Pointe Blvd., in Grosse Pointe Farms. Mrs. Wardwell, 78, died on Friday, July 14, 2000, in her Grosse Pointe Farms home. Survivors include her three sons, Sheldon, Jeffery, and Jonathon; two daughters, Alice Haggarty and Suzanne Prescott; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her body has been cremated. Memorials may be made out to the Children's Home of Detroit, 900 Cook, Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. 48236.
