From: "They Came to Mara", p. 714:
Janet McRae was married twice. It is believed that her first husband and the father of her children was named Duncan.
The family was probably from the parish of Lochcarron, north of Lochalsh, Ross-shire. According to the 1852 census of Mara, the three eldest children were born in Scotland: Alexander abt. 1919, Donald abt. 1820 and Fahquhar abt. 1823. The family emigrated to Cape Breton [Nova Scotia] where William was born abt. 1826 and John abt. 1828. Two daughters were born after the family moved to Ontario: Agnes, abt. 1831 and Isabella, abt. 1833.
Janet's second husband was Duncan McRae, a widower, (the father of Hannah, Alexander and Duncan MPP), see p. 708-11.)
