    And the name of Alexander Hog, rector of the grammar school of Brechin, appears on a deed of resignation in 1485.

    I do not know at what date the Grammer School of Brechin may have been instituted, but we are told that an Alexander Hog, who also held a chaplaincy in the Cathedral Church in 1485, is the first individual on record who assumed the title of rector of the school.
