Dad learned that Aleck was killed between Christmas and New Years when he tried to cross highway 401 (sic) and was struck by a car.

I have some sad news. While listening to the radio, I heard that an "Alex Moffat" was killed on Highway 115 as he crossed the highway (on foot) to visit neighbours. Apparently, he frequently did this but something went dreadfully wrong on December 27. I was uncertain whether this referred to "our" Aleck. Jean Menaul called today and confirmed that it was Aleck Robert Squair Mottat and I believe Jean will be forwarding his obituary - if she does, then I'll send you a transcript.
