Per 1880 census, this child was 5 years old, placing a birth year in 1874 or 1875. But we're fairly certain his father was the Jacob Betz who committed suicide in 1873. Who, then, is his father, or is the age inaccurate?

   The write-up on his mother's Find A Grave memorial page claims that this death record is his, in spite of the identification of his mother's maiden name, which might reflect that no one knew what it was.

5. ↑ The 1900 census seems to be the only source of an 1873 birth year. While this would make him the son of Jacob Betz, it would require moving his sister Eva's birth date a year earlier, which is feasible based on census records and her age at death, noting that her gravestone gives her birth year as 1873.
