This excerpt from "The Call Of San Saba" written by Alama Ward Hamrick in 1941:
"BENNETT, Mr. and Mrs. Albert, settled in the Pecan Grove-Harmony Ridge community more than fifty years ago. Mrs. Bennett was the former Miss Millie Armstrong. They were the parents of several sons and daughters; among those who have lived in San Saba County and have married members of other pioneer San Saba County families are the following: Effie, now Mrs. M. O. Patton of Harmony Ridge; Lola, now Mrs. Sherman Low of Glendale, Wyoming and Wayne B Bennett, who married the former Miss Alice Fox of Shaw Bend. Wayne Bennett is now serving his third term as San Saba County Commissioner of Precinct No. 1.
During the active years of his life, Mr Bennett, Sr., was engaged in farming and livestock work. He served as a deputy sheriff during the years when the railroad was being built through San Saba. Ex-Sheriff Hugh Miller is the authority for the statement that Albert Bennett fearlessly and conscientiously performed his duty while serving under him in that capacity, much of the work during a time when it took a real man to handle the situation since construction work usually brings a rather lawless element to a new section.
As a young man, Mr Bennett lived in Wyoming and prior to the first World War, he and Mrs. Bennett returned there to live."
