Aden was a well known mountaineer in Oconaluftee, North Carolina. He helped build Mingus Mill in the 1870's. In the 1940's he helped restore the mill. He was an expert millwright and helped rebuild the grist mills in the area after the Civil War. He helped rebuild the Harrisburg covered bridge after a flood almost destroyed it. He carved his own grave before he died. The hand on the grave is a carving of his granddaughter's hand.
