Facts and Events
Name[1] Addie Fox
Gender Female
Birth[1] 18 Nov 1875
Marriage 21 Nov 1893 to Robert Maitland
Death[1] 24 Sep 1903 Goodell, Hancock, Iowa, United States

At one point I thought that Addie Fox (wife of Robert Maitland) and Effie L (Find A Grave shows her as the mother of Guy Maitland, son of Robert) might be the same person.

However:

  • Addie would have been about 8 years old when Guy was born in 1883 or 1884.
  • Guy's obituary does not mention his mother surviving his passing. Effie L Maitland (buried in the same plot as Guy Maitland, lived until 1949, so probably was not his mother.
  • Robert Maitland is recorded as a widower in all of the census records I have found starting with the 1910 census, so again, Effie L Maitland could not be his wife, and could not be the same person as Addie, since she died in 1903.

Based upon the above, I currently presume that Addie was Robert Maitland's second wife, and should be considered a step-mother of Guy Maitland.

Word has been received by Mrs. George Fox of the death of her daughter, Mrs. Addie Maitland, which occurred Thursday of last week at their home in Goodell, Ia. She was born November 18, 1875, and grew to womanhood in Sycamore where she was united in marriage to Robert Maitland about 11 years ago.

They moved from Sycamore to Iowa about six months ago for the benefit of her health and she seemed to be gaining until a week ago when inflammatory rheumatism set in and caused her death. She was a loving wife and mother and had a host of friends here who mourn her loss. Her mother and brothers and two sisters are nearly prostrated over the lost of their beloved sister, as this has been the third time death has entered their family circle in nine months. They have the sympathy of this community.
