Facts and Events
[edit] A SHORT BIOGRAPHY WRITTEN BY A DESCENDANTEnsuring pursuit of happiness What do the often-related heroic events of the American Revolution mean to me as a Daughter of the American Revolution? First, my heartfelt thanks goes to Gen. George Washington for his leadership in winning our freedoms and to my forebear, Adam Upperman, who was engaged in this great effort of independence with the Philadelphia City Militia. With freedom assured, Upperman, from Northern Liberties, was able to earn his living as a milkman and later a tavern keeper. According to assessment records from Philadelphia in 1783, he also was able to purchase one horse and two cows, and by 1801, he owned a house and lot. When Adam died, his will of administration with the City of Philadelphia showed that he left $600 to each of his six children. Without the sacrifices made by our dedicated men and women during the American Revolution, there would have been no freedom for Adam Upperman to pursue his livelihood, nor for generations to come."
