1999 - Lockport Union-Sun & Journal, Obituary: Ada Belle Nickerson, was teacher. Newfane - Ada Belle Nickerson, 97, died Wednesday, Feb 17, 1999 at Newfane Health Care Center, after a lengthy illness. Born Oct 3, 1901 in Wilson, she was the daughter of William and Mary (Hurtgam) Schultz. Before moving to the health care facility in July of 1998, Mrs Nickerson lived in Lewiston for 18 years and in Niagara Falls for 48 years. She attended Cortland State Normal School and Buffalo State Normal School, graduating in 1926. She started her career in 1919 teaching in a one-room school-house in Wilson and Lewiston. After graduating from college, she began teaching elementary grades in the Niagara Falls school system. She retired in 1966. She was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church in Niagara Falls, where she taught Sunday school for many years and was active in the Ethel Nicholas Circle. Mrs Nickerson was a ember of the Order of Eastern Star, Flagler Chapter 355, of Niagara Falls; the New York State Retired Teachers Association Western Zone and the Niagara falls retired Teachers Association. She is survived by two daughters, Jan M. (Durwood) Phillips of Niagara Falls and Donna J. (William) West of Wilson; six grandchildren; nine great grand-children and one brother, LeRoy H. Schultz.
