Information from a publication of Indiana biographies (title unknown) "Abraham and Nancy Whitaker, who were born and reared in North Carolina and who settled in Jasper County, Indiana, within a few years after the close of the Civil war, in which Mr. Whitaker had served as a loyal soldier of the Confederacy, as a member of a North Carolina regiment. Abraham Whitaker became a successful representative of farm industry in Jasper County, but both he and his wife passed the closing period of their lives in the City of Hammond, where their mortal remains rest in Oak Hill Cemetery. "
Note: confirmation of Abraham's service in a North Carolina regiment in the Civil War has not been found.
