Will Transcription
- In the name of God Amen. I Abraham Staats of Mill Creek, Mason County, State of Virginia, being weak in body but sound and perfect mind and memory, blessed be Almighty God for same do make and publish this as my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say:
- First I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Sarah Staats, one bed and bedding, also one cow and calf.
- I also give and bequeath unto my two younger sons, William Tillman Staats and John Staats the plantation I lately lived on, situated and joining the farms of Elijah Staats and Dan Daniel Mayree now under rent to Isaac Cruse and the said farm or plantation to be equally divided between them, the said William Staats and John Staats at the time that the youngest arrives at the age of twenty-one years.
- I also give and bequeath unto my two daughters Annie Starcher and Hannah Staats the sum of two dollars current money to be divided between them the said Anne and Hannah.
- And I also give and bequeath unto my other children namely Catherine Cruse, Sarah Runyan, Rebecca Hews (?), Elijah Staats and Jacob Staats the sum of one dollar each to be paid to each?
- Likewise I give an bequeath unto the heirs of my son Abraham Staats, deceased, the sum of one dollar being his legacy.
- Also to the heirs of my daughter Susanna Heushaw, decd, the sum of one dollar and lastly I give and bequeath unto the heirs of my son Cornelius Staats, the sum of one dollar.
- I also appoint my Jacob Staats to be my sold Executor of this my last will and testament also guardian over my two boys William Tillman and John Staats as aforementioned, hereby revolking all former wills of me made.
- In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this last day of July one thousand eight hundred and twenty six.

- Signed, sealed, published and declared by the above named Abraham Staats to be his last will and testament in the presence of us:
- Elijah King
- Frances King
- Jacob Staats
- At a court held for Mason County the 4th day of September 1826 this last will and testament of Abraham Staats, dec'd was presented in court and proved __ on oaths of Elijah King, Frances King witnesses thereto and ordered ______ unto _____.
