The two Abrahams are distinguished in the record as senior and junior. Seometime between September 1777 and April 1778 both Abraham Goads took tehoath of allegiance to the revolutionary cause and soon afterwards the younger Abraham went into the army. The details that remain of his service are to be found in the pension application of Edmond Jennings (File #S4439). In April 1784 Rainey Goad, the widow of young Abraham, was certified by the Pittsylvania Court (Pittsylvania, O.B. 5-78) as the widow of a deceased soldier and in 1786 she was allowed 6 pounds per year (Pittsylvania, O.B. 5-239). He was the only known resident of the county [Carroll county, Virginia] who died in service during the Revolution.
