It is not believed that this estimate has any basis in reality, but was chosen based on Elisha Thayer's clearly impossible dates. It is only used here because it seems likely people will be looking for it, and there is no alternate that can be even be suggested with confidence. The death record says Abner is a son of Benjamin and Mary, making his birth clearly before 1735. But as there is no age at death, his birth could conceivably occur over most of the range from the parents' marriage in 1720 up until 1734 there being little known of documented surety about the children of this family, and the literature apparently contaminated by Thayer's work.
