Miss Abby Maxson was the third of four children of Jonathan and Mary (Millard) Maxson, and was born in Newport, R. I., Nov. 10th, 1780. Her religious experiences date back to the years of childhood, yet she was about seventeen years old when she made a public profession and joined the Seventh-day Baptist Church of Hopkinton. She was a cheerful and faithful Christian. The adoring graces of patience, quietude, confiding hope, and good will to all, shone illustriously in her long and beautiful life. She enjoyed a remarkable immunity from physical debility until within a few months of her change from earthly usefulness to heavenly rest. She died in Westerly, April 26th, 1874, aged 93 years, 5 months and 16 days. "He giveth his beloved rest."
