    1:29.

'DANIEL, Charlestown, s. of Walter of the same, ... w. Mary, d. of Rev. John Sherman by his first w. had David, b. 1 July 1659; Rebecca, 15 Jan. 1661, d. in 10 days; rem. to Watertown, and had Mary, 1662; rem. to Lancaster, there had Samuel, 17 Apr. 1664; and Elnathan, 11 Feb. 1666; again rem. to W. and had Abigail; Thomas, 1670, wh. d. next yr.; Ebenezer, 26 Dec. 1674; Eliz. and Lydia. ... He d. 7 Mar. 1694, and his neighb. Lawrence Hammond, highly extols his charact. in the Diary. Bond, wh. must be in error, as to his d. at Sudbury 1706, says, his s. David serv. in the expedit. to Canada, and d. 17 Oct. 1711; that Abigail m. Moses Palmer of Stonington; and Eliz. m. Joseph Fletcher.'

This source repeats Bond's error that Daniel married Mary Sherman, but notes that Bond was wrong about Daniel's death. It also gives his first son's name as David - the latest editing of Charlestown VR (1984-1995) indicates that his name was Daniel, incorrectly recorded as David in "Co. Rec". The order of events given by Savage, which implies, for example, that Rebecca was born in Charlestown, is not completely accurate, meaning that Abigail, whose birth is not recorded in Watertown VR, could have been born in Lancaster, whose VR were not recorded between 6 Feb 1671 and 4 Feb 1717 (according to Early Records of Lancaster, Massachusetts: 1643-1725).

  3. Many compilers give her birth date as 12 Jan 1672 (1671/2). However, the Abigail Allen who was born in Lancaster 12 Jan 1672 (1672/3) was the daughter of Benjamin and Mary Allen, according to the transcription of Lancaster records in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register, 16(1862):359.

1672 does not fit well with the birth dates of her children - she would have been 50 at the birth of her youngest. Instead, she may have been Daniel and Mary's youngest child, rather than born before Thomas (b. 1670), as implied by Savage, or before Ebenezer (b. 1674), as implied by Bent. A reasonable estimate for her birth year is 1682 - halfway in between the birth of her mother (in 1642) and the birth of her youngest child (in 1722), making her 21 at marriage.
