TOWN, Abigail, wid. Moses, Sept. 15, 1821, a. about 90. [Birth about 1731.]
↑ The identification of Moses Town's 2nd wife as Abigail Adams is somewhat speculative. She is known to be a widow from the Grafton intentions. No record in Grafton can be found showing the possible death of a husband or birth of a child in an earlier marriage.
Oxford records show the baptism of "Elizabeth Child Town" and "John Town" in 1765 on the same day. They also show the death of "Elizabeth Child", d/o "Nathaniel of Sutton and Abigail" in 1767. It is thought that Elizabeth was not Moses's child, but from Abigail's first marriage.
Worcester and Sutton records give the marriage of Nathaniel of Worcester and Abigail Adams of Sutton on 23 Oct 1756. They have son John b. 27 Mar 1757, and Betty b. 18 Dec 1758, in Sutton. The correspondence between these children and the Town baptisms is the basis for identifying Abigail as Abigail Adams. Nothing further has been determined about her or her first husband.
