At Milton Junction, Wis., Dec. 4th, 1876, of dropsy of the heart, Abel G. Burdick, aged 75 years. Bro. Burdick was a son of Abel Burdick, was born in Hopkinton, R. I., Nov. 26th, 1801. While a small child, his parents moved to Berlin, Rensselaer Co., N. Y. He obtained a hope in Christ at the age of sixteen. When he was twenty-one years old he married Nancy Lawton, daughter of Stephen Lawton, of Berlin.
At the age of twenty-two, he and his wife were baptized by Eld. William Satterlee, and united with the Berlin Seventh-day Baptist church, with which he walked some seven or eight years, when he moved to Genesee, Allegany county, N. Y., and united with the 1st Genesee church. After living in Genesee and vicinity some years, he moved to Verona, Oneida Co., N. Y., and united with the 2d Verona church soon after its organization; here he lived about twenty years, filling the office of church clerk and chorister most of the time. He also filled several important offices of trust in the town where he lived. In 1859, he moved with his family to West Milton, Wis., where he worked at his trade, shoemaking, until his health failed, which was about one year prior to his death. For several years, he was teacher of the Bible Class in the West Milton Sabbath School. He suffered much during his last sickness, not being able to lie down on his bed for about six weeks previous to his death. But he now rests from his labors while his works do follow him.
