    "… Lt. Abel Birdsey, son of John Birdseye and Phebe Wilcoxson, born 30 November 1679 in Stratford, Connecticut (Barbour citing LR 1:56); and died 14 May 1747 in Stratford, Connecticut (Barbour citing LR 5:42) and is buried in Stratford Cemetery (Hale 491). … Abel Birdsey was appointed lieutenant of the south trainband under Capt. John Wells in May 1727 (Col. Recs. 7:94). He served in the General Court as Deputy for Stratford in October 1725, October 1730, October 1731, October 1732, February 1732/3 (Col. Recs. 6:554; 7:293, 346, 363, 403, 420).

    Abel Birdsey's will was dated 12 May 1747 and proved 9 June 1747. It names his wife Mercy, Ruth Dunlop the wife of James Dunlop [no relationship given for Ruth], and his children John Birdsey, Samuel Birdsey, William Birdsey, Abel Birdsey, Elizabeth Curtis the wife of Ben'm Curtis, Joanna Watkins the wife of Ephraim Watkins, the heirs of Eunice Youngs, Phebe Young the wife of Abimeel Youngs, Comfort Wells the wife of John Wells, Sarah Lewis the wife of Ephraim Lewis, and Mary Yarrenton the wife of John Yarrenton. William Birdsey and John Wells were appointed executors (Fairfield Probate District, Connecticut Estate Files, docket no. 799)."
