about the Johnson family "... For the next two years they lived at Galena camp. A baby girl was born to them in 1879, and they name her Bentina Olgalena, the middle name honoring the town in which she was born. Andy homesteaded on a ranch near Boxelder but sold out after a while and went further west to California. Martin tried prospecting occasionally, but he was a farmer and listed himself so on the 1880 census. Speaking later of his father's mining success, Dick Johnson said Martin almost stumbled over the profitable Uncle Sam mine at Roubaix, and missed it. In 1880 Martin and Annie moved a few miles out of camp to a ranch near Elk Creek, calling their new home Elk Park Ranch because of the elk occasionally seen near it. Martin was in his natural vocation again, but six year old George Richard had to be started in school. They solved this problem by boarding the boy with Aaron Lamberson, the butcher in Galena, during the school year. Two more baby girls were born to the family, Ella in 1881 and Carbonetta in 1883. In 1883 the camp fortunes collapsed and many of the miners left for new prospects. Lamberson moved to a place near Knute Sidgestad's about a mile and a half from Galena but still closer to the Galena school than the Elk Park Ranch, and Dick continued to stay with the butcher's family during the school year....".
