On 2-Nov-1754 Nathaniel CARTMILL was living at a place between Dog Creek and Stoney Creek near Verdin [Verdige] Hook on the Delaware River. From: DeNewCastle mailing list.

I have been unable locate anything that resembled "Verdin Hook" or "Verdige Hook" on the Delaware, or elsewhere. It is obviously an old Dutch era place name, but it does not seem to have survived into modern times, leastwise it does not appear on the GNIS listing for Delaware. Perhaps old maps of the area will be helpful.

From: FREDERICK COUNTY [VA ROAD ORDERS 1743-1772] 7 June 1749 O. S., FOB 3, p. 88 Samuel Pritchard is hereby Appointed Overseer of the Road in the Room of Nathaniel Cartmell deced & It is Ordered that the Tithables which worked under the said Cartmell work under the said Pritchard & that the said Pritchard cause the said Road to be Cleared as laid Off by Abraham Wiseman & when Cleared that he Keep the same in good repair according to Law.

possibly the same Nathaniel Cartmell who lived in Brandywine Hundred, but left or died prior to XXXX.
