Copiah County, Mississippi Deed Book H, pages 115-116 This indenture made this the 27th day of August one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight between John R. Legrand and Marcia W. Legrand his wife of the first part and Daniel Hausey of the second part all of the County of Copiah and State of Mississippi witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of Two hundred and fourty dollars to them paid by the said Daniel Hausey of the second part at or before the ensealing or delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargained and sold and do by these presents grant bargain sell and convey unto the said party of the second part the following lot or parcel of land lying and being in Copiah County State of Mississippi know and designated as follows towit

   The West half of East half of South East fourth of Section No. 14
   Towship No. 10 of Range 8 East containing forty acres more or less

To have and to hold the said lot or parcel of land with all the privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever and we the said first part for ourselves our heirs executors or administrators doth covenant and agree to and with the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever warrant and defend said land with all the privileges and appertenances thereunto belonging to said party of the second part his heirs and assigns against the lawful or equitable claim or claims of each and every person claiming or to claim same in testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals this the day and date first above written.

The State of Mississippi Copiah County Personally appeared before me the undersigned Justice of the peace in and for said County John R. Legrant whose name is subscribed hereto who acknowledged that he signed sealed and delivered the foregoing deed on the day and year therein expressed as his own proper act and added also on the same day came before me Mrs. Marcia W. Legrand wife of the above named John R. Legrand who being examined by me separate and apart from her said husband acknowledged that she signed sealed and delivered the same as her own voluntary act and deed without any threat fear or compulsion on the part of her said husband and that she wished not to retract it. Given under my hand and seal of office at Gallatin August 27th A. D. 1838.
