Folliwng the death of Jo's sister Bertha, Ralph and Jo adopted her daughter, Ruth, on April 9, 1928.

On January 27, 1946, Ed was married to Ruth Igou of Dow City. Ruth's parents were Percy and Bertha Brown. When Ruth was six months old, her mother died. The father then left the family, and Ruth was adopted by Ralph and Josephine Igou. Josephine died in 1978. Ralph died in 1983. Ruth has three natural brothers: Dewey (wife, Ruth) of Dayton, Roy (wife Molly) of Martinez, Califronia, and Ralph "Brownie" Larson (wife, Vernet) of Charter Oak.

Ralph Jay "Brownie" was born September 6, 1925 to Percy and Bertha (Munsey) Brown on a farm near Dow City, Iowa. When Brownie was two and a half years old, his mother died suddenly and his father forsook the children and left. He had two brothers, Robert "Dewey" and LeRoy and one sister, Ruth. The next two years he stayed with neighbors and relatives and then, was adopted by Frank and Verna Larson.
