James W. Hatch Succumbs at 80

    James W. Hatch, 80, Lilac aPark Drive, Mannsville, a retired farmer and carpenter, was pronounced dead on arrival at 8:35 p.m. Thursday Dec. 23, at Mercy Hospital, Watertown.  Mr. Hatch was stricken with an apparent heart attack while repairing a door for a neighbor.
    The funeral was Monday at 11 a.m. at the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams, with Rev. Miles L. Hutchinson, retired Methodist minister, officiating.  Spring burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Adams.
    He is survived by his wife Mrs. Ethel F. Hatch; a son, Marvin, Louisville, Ky., three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Isabelle) Brown, Baldwinsville, Mrs. Arthur (Beverly) Philips, Adams, and Mrs. Howard (Jeanette) McNett, Mannsville, 24 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
    Four sons died before him, Douglas, who died at birth, and three sons who died as a result of an automobile accident, Richard, in 1952, Robert J., in 1962, and Sgt. Keith Hatch, a Vietnam War veteran on Oct 20, 1967.
    Born May 5, 1896, at Watkins Glen, a son of George and Armida Secore Hatch, he moved to the South Jefferson section in his early years and married Ethel Failing, Dec. 8 1925, at Pulaski by Justice of the Peace Byron G. Seamans.
    Mr. Hatch had worked as a farmer and carpenter in the South Jefferson section most of his life, residing at various times in the Belleville, Rodman and Barnes Corners sections.  He was employed a number of years by Fred Phinney on his turkey farm.
