Lazarus Gilbert

At the urgent request of Helen, widow, of the late L. Gilbert, I send a brief notice of the life and demise of a princely man. I can say of him from personal knowledge that he was one of the princes of our Methodist Israel. He was born on Long Island, State of New York, on the 8th day of April, in the year 1776; and when 17 years of age he was savingly converted to God. He removed from his former home to Adolphustown, Canada West in 1817, at which place he died on the 23rd of October, 1861.
