"Private funeral services for George W. Baker, district manager of the Worcester office of the John Hancock Life Insurance Co. until his retirement in 1943, who died early this morning, will be Friday morning in his home at 309 Lincoln Street, with cremation in Rural Cemtery. He was born in Brushton, NY son of the late John W. and Elizabeth Sherman Baker [incorrect - she was Elizabeth Pope Barnum- BH]. He started with the company as a clerk in the Buffalo, NY office on Jan. 28, 1898. Four years later he was transferred to the Boston office as inspector where he remained until 1906 when he was made supervisor of agencies, his duties taking him in every part of the country. He became district agent at Worcester in 1919. He was a member of Worcester County Commandery, Aleppo Temple, Aletheia Grotto, Norfolk Lodge, A.F. &A. M. of Needham. He was also a member of teh Altheia Grotto Band in which he played baritone horn or euphonium. He leaves besides, his widow, Mrs. Mable M. (Van Norman) Baker, two sons, Warren Van N. Baker of Auburn an George W. Baker, Jr. of Worcester."
