Gary Astill: "In the 1881 census William (b.c1829) states his birthplace as Bovison, Devon. This doesn't exist but we thought probably something to do with North or South Bovey or Bovey Tracy. Whilst checking these PR's she found the PR's of Manaton, a parish surrounded by the Bovey parishes, Widecombe and Ilsington. So she searched these as well and found a group of Setter listings. The most interesting was; '5 Jul 1829 bp William son of William and Mary Setter of Kennon in Bovey'. This is the first time we have had a William of the right age and a connection to Bovey anything."
