Roy McIlwee here in Scranton, Penna. wishing to share two great websites for McElwee/McIlwee researchers. The first is The South Carolina Department Of Archives and History at http://scdah.sc.gov/ Once there, click on On-Line records Indexes, then click on Beta Test and start your search. Here you should search McElwee. Another great site is at http://www.lva.lib.va.us/ once you are here, click on What We Have, then click on LVA Catalogs and search for McIlwees here. The South Carolina website has McElwees listed as early as 1762 (I once posted the McElwees there as early as 1722 but that was a typo.) The relationship between the Abbeville McElwees and the York County, S.C. McElwees is obvious but I wonder if anyone has ever been able to connect these South Carolina McElwees to the McIlwees from Virginia. Good luck to all McElwee/McIlwee hunters!!
