MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Mary Jane Barnett Smith, 86, Memphis, formerly of Hopkinsville, Ky., died Saturday, July 16, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital, Memphis, of natural causes.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Holy Spirit. Canale Funeral Directors, Memphis, is in charge of arrangements.

A native of Hopkinsville, she was born Oct. 2, 1918, the daughter of the late Newton Alpheus and Frederica Grau Barnett. She had been a sales clerk.

Her husband, Raldon Morgan Smith, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her 11 children, Judy Rogers, Collierville, Tenn., Raldon Smith Jr., Toledo, Wash., Mary Jane Echols, Delaware, Ohio, Charles Smith, Manitou Springs, Colo., Margaret Susan Foley, Pinellas Park, Fla., Linda Martindale, El Paso, Texas, Virginia Belle Moorehead, Punta Gorda, Fla., Richard Smith, Memphis, William Smith, Chico, Calif., Patricia Rucker, Germantown, Tenn., Donald Smith, Memphis; a sister, Theresa Ann Barnett Stites, Hopkinsville, 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the library at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Memphis.
