After marriage, Eliza Jane & Manuel Filtingberger lived on the land formerly known as Black Bob Indian Reservation which the Feltenbergers had claimed and farmed. This was in Aubry Township Johnson County, Kansas.

By 1895 the family lived in Stanley, Oxford Twp. where Manuel built their home and had a business hauling freight for the railroad, by horse and wagon. Families of that time were self sufficient, growing most of their food, gathering wood for heat and cooking. Manuel grew tobacco for the pipes both he and Eliza Jane smoked.

The 1900 census Oxford Twp. pg 6 line 108 shows Manuel and Eliza Jane with children: William age 19 - Pearl age 16 - Mary age 11 - Cora Belle age 8. Son Charles died between 1895 and 1900. He is buried in Pleasant Valley Cemt. near Stanley.
1910 census Eliza Jane & Manuel are reported in Oxford Twp. E.D. 112 line 165 at Stanley, Ks.

Children of Manuel & Eliza Jane, Charles had died, William & Pearl had married and were living on their own. Youngest daughter Cora Belle had married Jesse Laughlin and they were living with her parents.
Manuel & Eliza Jane Filtingberger lived their lives in Johnson County, much of it in Stanley, Oxford Twp. He was a farmer as were his ancestors before him. In later years Manuel was afflicted with Palsy and Chronic Nephritis. He died 4 April 1925. Eliza Jane lived in Stanley or at times with some of her children. The last few years were spent with her daughter, Irene Powell. Her health was good but her mental capacity deteriorated the last few years. She died in her own bed with her family around. She is buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery beside her husband.

William Filtingberger born 1881 Johnson Co. Ks. He grew up in Stanley attending schools there. He married Ada Armstrong of Olathe, Ks. about 1900.
