We have only made a beginning on this family of ancestors. In searching census, will, and marriage records of Nicholas County Kentucky 1800 thru 1850 we find:
1810 GITHENS John • 1 male 26-45 1 male under 10 • 1 female 16-26
1810 GITHENS Henry • 1 male 26-45 1 male 10-16 1 male under 10 • 1 female 26-45 1 female under 10
We believe this John and Henry Githens are brothers, we just need to prove it.
Henry appears on the 1815 Taxpayers List in 1815 (not after). In Nicholas Co. Wills Book A (1800-1806) there is a will on record for Henry Githens. Inventory, Sales, and Approved pages 350-352 made 25 Oct 1815, recorded 4 Nov 1815.

In Nicholas County Index to Deeds 1800-1870 there are many records of land sales and purchases for Henry Githens - John Githens (wife Susannah) many for parcels of land patented to Sam'l Haws of Virginia. These are in Book C page 440 March 1813 and Book D page 63 April 1814 - Book C page 226 from James Clark 150 acres 1811.
Appearing on Taxpayer Lists beginning in 1821 there is Valentine Githens, Wesley Githens, white males above 21 years. Val is listed until 1827 (not after). Wesley is listed 1823, 24, 33, and 34. 1825 he is listed as John W. Githens and again 1836 38 thru 1841.
We are working on the idea that they are brothers listed census 1810 under age 10. On census 1830 thru 1860 we do not find a Valentine Githens anywhere in Kentucky. We find John W. Givens in Nicholas County house 196 in Carlisle Twp. 1830 and 1840 John (H.) Githers house 94 in Carlisle.
