[S1287] - Laughlin/Trimble Book page 5

JOHN LAUGHLIN married 1st PATSY LUCKIE, daughter of ROBERT LUCKIE and CATHERINE FOSTER. Patsy Laughlin died 1819 at age of 25 leaving three small daughters. She is buried in the graveyard of the Old Cane Ridge Meeting House. Her mother, Catherine Luckie, is also buried here.

John Laughlin married 2nd TABITHA TRIMBLE daughter of ISAAC TRIMBLE, a Rev. War soldier. John and Tabitha raised a family of eight children as well as the three daughters by Patsy. They were farmers and lived their lives out in Bourbon and Nicholas Counties of Kentucky. Many of their descendants still live in the state.

Because our ancestors and hundreds of their descendants lived and died in and around Bourbon County Kentucky, it might be of interest to name a few of the cemeteries in the area.

The historic OLD CANE RIDGE MEETING HOUSE BURYING GROUND. The log meeting house was built in 1791 near Stoner Creek. It began as a Presbyterian Congregation under Robert W. Finley from North Carolina. In 1804 under Barton Warren Stone the first Congregation of the Christian Church formed (Disciples of Christ). The original building still exists (1992) protected by a stone superstructure built around it in 1957. The congregation disbanded in 1921 after 130 years. The church and burying ground are maintained by an Endowment Fund and Direct Support Agency of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

The LAUGHLIN GRAVE YARD is located on the former Henson Laughlin Farm on Sugar Creek Road. It is an old graveyard, many Laughlins are known to be buried here. There are many native stones with no markings and many have been broken and destroyed. At one time there was a native stone fence around the cemetery. James Laughlin and wife Mary (Mann) are buried here -- stones have disappeared. Sanford Laughlin (brother of James & Phoebe Laughlin) is here also.

BLUE LICKS GRAVE YARD in Nicholas County near the Blue Licks Battlefield State Park.

Near Millersburg along Highway 68 we found an old cemetery - badly neglected. It was so overgrown with weeds we didn't go in and found no name. It was fairly large and had many OLD markers.

Also in Bourbon County there are these: North Middletown, Rockbridge Church, Hinkstown Church, Old Broadwell M.E. Church, Paris Cemetery, Lander Graveyard, Mt. Lebonon. Any of these could be the resting place for Laughlins who stayed in the area.

In Montgomery County we found these: beyond Camargo S.E. of Mt. Sterling an old cemetery where many Trimbles were buried as early as 1824 as well as Antioch Church grave yard.
