(Thanks to Liz L.) Below is a reproduction of a typed transcript of the John Wheeler Bible. The Bible was kept by Person:John Wheeler (140), who during his life migrated from his birthplace of New Hampshire to South Carolina, got married, relocated to Tennessee, then to Mississippi (where his wife died), then to Matagorda County, Texas, and finally settled in Stockdale, TX, where he died. Thus, it has great genealogical value, since the various parts of his life are spread all across the young American nation and would be almost impossible to piece together without the help of these records.

Who made the transcript is not known, nor are the whereabouts of the Bible currently known (there was a notarized proof of its existence made in 1961).

The following is a list of known errors. It is not clear whether these are errors of transcription or of the original Bible.

1. Daniel Milner Wheeler is "David" for his birth and list of children, "Daniel" in the marriage list. I assume there would not be two Davids in one family (i.e., we already know about David Thwing Wheeler), and that he is named after Martha's father, Daniel Milner, so Daniel is the right name.
2. Charles Marcos Wheeler's birth record and death record are inconsistent. Probably, Charles was born about June 3, to make the age calculation work. This would have been just prior to his mother's death, which undoubtedly was due to complications of childbirth.
3. Joseph Alexander McIntire was born in Madison Co, VA (not MA).
4. Martha Twing was David Twing's wife, not sister, as she is described in her death record.
5. William Flint Wheeler lived about 14 years less one month, not 13 years plus one month. Suspect someone switched calculation methods half way through?
6. Eliza Jane Pirie lived 1 year, 11 mo 16 days, not 17 years, 11 mo 16 days.
7. According to the census record, it was William B. McSparran, not James, who married Martha Ann (Wheeler) Keller.
8. If John Edwin, the first of that name, lived 28 days as the death record says, either the birth or death record has the wrong year.
9. The death of James Pirie may possibly be May 23, instead of May 28. This conclusion is based on comparison with other sources which may have had access to the actual Bible, suggesting this is a transcription error.
